About Us

Max Pemberton is Managing Partner of Pemberton Associates, a company he founded in 1987. He has been involved in the international motor industry for most of his working life, initially with a major OEM. Consequently, he has travelled to most parts of the globe, in both operational and staff roles, as diverse as KD and production planning to sales, marketing, finance, regional management, and franchising and distribution.  He was Regional Manager for Central and South America and then Australasia, the Far East and Pacific. He was involved in international planning, forecasting and strategy, prior to starting Pemberton Associates.   He is actively involved in writing, speaking, research and consultancy work on the global automotive industry.  He places particular emphasis on international markets and industry structures, as well as long-term forecasting, global sales and production trends, strategy and planning and the evolution and development of the global vehicle parc and vehicle scrappage.

His global database and forecasting programmes, which currently extend over a 90-year time span from 1960 to 2050, encompass the whole world and cover both passenger cars and commercial vehicles.  He is an acknowledged authority on world markets and structures and long-term, global forecasts and strategic developments as they apply to the automotive and related industries and organisations.  He has been commissioned by several major companies in the industry to carry out specialised research programmes and studies, ranging from the future of the retail environment and parts and service operations, niche research on specific component demand and supply, the opportunity to extend breakdown services to a pan-European level, and potential demand for fuel and oil production and long-term vehicle demand.  Recent work concentrates on the challenges facing the industry and the world through increasing levels of vehicle scrappage and the effects of population growth and income distribution on vehicle demand.

Max Pemberton is a Fellow of the Institute of the Motor Industry, a Member of the Guild of Motoring Writers, a Member of the Fellowship of the Motor Industry, and is a past Chairman of the SMMT Export Trade Committee.  He is a Founding Partner of, and Consulting Editor to, www.autelligence.com.  He is a Non-Executive Director of Autogreen Ltd and an Automotive Advisor to the Sustainable Vehicle Engineering Centre at the School of Technology at Oxford Brookes University.

Many major newspapers and magazines around the world have commissioned and printed his articles and papers.  In particular, his special research reports and forecasts have been published by global companies such as the Economist Intelligence Unit, the Financial Times, Automotive World, Ward’s Communications and Ludvigsen Associates, as well as Pemberton Associates, the Automotive Strategies Group and Autelligence Limited.
